Privacy Policy

CloudEx Inc. ("we", "us", or "our") operates the "PDF Editor Pro" app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the Service, you are deemed to have agreed to the practices described in this Policy.

1. Our Core Principle

PDF Editor Pro is an app that turns photos and scans into PDFs and lets you view, edit, sign, and protect PDF files. Converting, editing, compressing, and text recognition all happen entirely on your device: none of this processing is done on a server, and your documents are never uploaded to us. Specifically, the app does not send any of the following to us or to any other server:

  • The PDFs, photos, and scans you open or create, or their contents
  • The text read by text recognition (OCR)
  • Your signatures
  • The passwords you use to open, protect, or unprotect PDFs
  • A history of the documents you open

PDF Editor Pro passes your documents outside the app only when you ask it to: when you share a file, print it, or open it in another app. Separately, if Android backup is turned on, Android may back up the app's settings and your saved signatures to your own Google account (see Section 3.2).

2. How Your Documents Are Handled

PDF Editor Pro opens only the files you give it: photos you select in the system photo picker, PDFs you select in the system file picker, and files or text you send to the app from another app (for example with “Share” or “Open with”). It does not ask for “All files access” and does not look through your photos on its own. The lists in the app show the PDFs this app has created and the files you have recently opened; only on Android 9 and earlier, and only with your permission, do they also show the other PDFs stored on your device. These lists are built on your device.

Results are always saved as new files: PDFs and text files in Documents/PDF Editor Pro and images in Pictures/PDF Editor Pro in your device's shared storage, where other apps that you allow to access your files (such as a file manager or a gallery) can also see them. The app never overwrites the original file, and it renames or deletes a file only when you ask it to. When you edit a password-protected PDF, the resulting PDF stays password-protected; the only tool that saves it as an unprotected PDF is “Remove password”.

While it works, the app keeps temporary copies in its private cache, which other apps cannot access and which is not included in backups. The app deletes them automatically, and unprotected working copies of password-protected PDFs are deleted no later than the next time the app starts.

Passwords you enter to open, protect, or unprotect a PDF are used only on your device for that task. The app does not save them, so we cannot recover a password you have forgotten.

Text recognition (OCR, a Premium feature) and document scanning use Google's ML Kit, which is provided through Google Play services and runs on your device. The scanning screen, including the camera, is shown by Google Play services, so PDF Editor Pro itself has no camera permission; the app receives only the page images you confirm. According to Google, ML Kit processes images on the device and does not send them to Google. ML Kit may, however, connect to Google to download or update its models (for example, the first time you use text recognition) and may send Google information about how the feature is used and how well it performs. That information does not include your images or the recognized text.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Information Collected Automatically

  • Anonymous crash reports: Via Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes, we collect the stack trace, device model, OS version, and app version. This does not include personally identifiable information or the contents of your documents.
  • App usage statistics: Via Google Analytics for Firebase. We collect anonymous app usage events (such as the app being opened for the first time) together with device information and the device's advertising ID (AAID). We use this data to understand aggregate app usage and to measure the effectiveness of our own advertising campaigns (counting app installs that resulted from an ad). It is never used to display ads in the app.
  • Purchase / license information: We use purchase tokens issued by Google Play to verify your one-time Premium purchase. We never receive any payment information such as credit card numbers.
  • List of our other apps: When the list of our other apps is shown, the app downloads the current list and its images from our server. The request contains only what every web request contains, such as your IP address. To decide which apps to show, the app checks on your device which of our apps are already installed and which region your device is set to (from the SIM, the mobile network, and the language settings); this information is not sent anywhere.
  • Emails you send us: If you use “Contact us” or send feedback from the app, your email app opens with the app version, Android version, and device model filled in (and, for feedback, your star ratings). Nothing is sent unless you send the email yourself. We then receive your email address and what you wrote.

3.2 Information Stored on Your Device

  • Files you create: The PDFs, images, and text files the app creates are saved in the folders described in Section 2. They stay on your device until you delete them, even if you uninstall the app. Other apps you use, such as a cloud backup or sync app, may copy them according to your own settings.
  • Saved signatures: Signatures you draw are saved as images in the app's private storage so that you can reuse them. They are used only when you place one on a PDF.
  • Recent files, favorites, and bookmarks: The files you have opened, your favorites, your bookmarks, the last page you read, and the settings you last used for “Photos to PDF”. Files are recorded as references to the files, not as copies.
  • App settings: The theme, the sort order and layout of the file list, reading settings (night mode, keep the screen on, swipe sideways, snap to whole pages, remember where you stopped), delete confirmation, export resolution and image format, the text recognition language, the default file name, and whether Premium has been purchased.
  • Android backup: If backup is turned on in your device settings, Android may include the app settings (including the purchase status) and your saved signatures in the backup it stores in your own Google account, and may copy them to a new device when you transfer your data. The items under “Recent files, favorites, and bookmarks” are excluded. We have no access to these backups.

Everything in the app's own storage (signatures, lists, and settings) is erased when you uninstall the app or clear the app's data.

3.3 Information We Explicitly Do Not Collect

  • Your documents, photos, and scans, or their contents (the app only processes the ones you choose, on your device)
  • The text read by text recognition, your signatures, or your passwords
  • A history of the websites you visit or the contents of your communications
  • Location information such as GPS coordinates
  • Phone number, contacts, calendar, microphone, or camera

3.4 Permissions the App Requests and Their Purposes

PDF Editor Pro requests only a few OS permissions and uses them only for the stated purposes:

  • Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS, Android 13+) — Used only to let you know that a conversion has finished if you left the app while it was running. If you do not allow notifications, conversions still work.
  • Storage (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) — Requested only on Android 9 and earlier, where it is needed to save results to the Documents and Pictures folders and to list the PDFs on your device. The list is used on your device only. On Android 10 and later, the app does not ask for storage permission.
  • Internet (INTERNET) — Used only to show this privacy policy, to fetch the list of our other apps, and to send the anonymous diagnostic data described above. Your documents are never sent.
  • Permissions added by Google libraries — The Google Play Billing and Firebase libraries add permissions such as billing, network state, install referrer, and advertising ID. They are used only for the purposes described in Sections 3.1 and 5.

PDF Editor Pro does not request access to the camera, microphone, location, or contacts, or “All files access” (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE).

4. How We Use Information

The limited information we collect is used only for the following purposes:

  • Operating and maintaining the Service
  • Verifying purchases
  • Understanding aggregate app usage and improving the app (analytics)
  • Measuring the effectiveness of our own advertising campaigns (install conversion measurement)
  • Diagnosing and fixing crashes
  • Responding to support inquiries
  • Complying with applicable laws

5. Third-Party Services

PDF Editor Pro uses the following third-party services. Each service has its own privacy policy.

  • Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) — anonymous crash diagnostic data
  • Google Analytics for Firebase (Google LLC) — anonymous app usage statistics and measurement of our own ad campaigns (install conversions)
  • ML Kit (Google LLC, provided through Google Play services) — on-device text recognition and document scanning (see Section 2)
  • Google Play Billing — payments are completed on the store platform side
  • Google Play In-App Review and In-App Updates (Google LLC) — showing the Google Play rating prompt and offering app updates

PDF Editor Pro does not display ads within the app and does not share your data with advertising networks in order to show you ads.

6. Data Retention

  • Crash reports: retained for 90 days, then deleted.
  • Analytics data: retained by Google Analytics for up to 14 months, then deleted.
  • Support emails: retained for 12 months after the last reply, then deleted (except where legally required).
  • Signatures, lists, and settings stored in the app: erased when you uninstall the app or clear the app's data. Files the app has saved to the Documents and Pictures folders stay on your device until you delete them.

7. International Data Transfers

We are based in Japan. The infrastructure used for crash diagnostics and analytics may be located in various countries. When you use the Service, the minimal information described above may be processed outside your country of residence under standard contractual safeguards.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you reside (e.g., the EEA, UK, California, Japan), you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the limited information we hold. You can:

  • Reset or delete your device's advertising ID in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads)
  • Uninstall the app or clear the app's data to erase the signatures, lists, and settings stored in the app
  • Turn off backup in your device settings if you do not want the app's settings and saved signatures included in your Android backup
  • Contact us at the address below to make a request regarding the information we hold

9. Children's Privacy

PDF Editor Pro is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age applicable in your region). If we inadvertently collect information from such a child, we will delete it promptly upon being contacted.

10. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The latest version is always published at this URL together with its effective date. We will also notify you within the app of significant changes as appropriate.
